# Connecting DonorPerfect

Connect DonorPerfect to record your SmartChange contributions in your donor database. Each contribution is posted to the matching donor, or a new donor is created.

### Before you start

Get your API credentials from the settings area in DonorPerfect. If you can't find them, ask DonorPerfect support or email us and we'll walk you through it.

### Connect DonorPerfect in SmartChange

1. Open your organization in SmartChange.
2. In the left sidebar, click **More → Developer**, then **Integrations**.
3. Find the **DonorPerfect** card. It is labeled **CRM · Outbound** and shows **Not connected** until you connect it.
4. Open the card, enter your DonorPerfect credentials, and save.

Enter credentials on the Integrations page only. Never paste them into the Agent.

### What gets sent

- SmartChange looks for a matching donor by email, then by name.
- If it finds one, the contribution is added to that donor.
- If not, it creates a new donor.
- Contributions carry your GL and solicitation codes.

All data flows one way: from SmartChange to DonorPerfect.

### If it stops syncing

The integration shows under **Needs attention** on the Integrations page. Nothing is lost. Records queue and go through once you reconnect.
