# Connecting NationBuilder

Connect NationBuilder to record your SmartChange contributions in your nation. Each contribution becomes a donation in NationBuilder, with a tracking code for the form it came through.

### What you'll need

- Admin access to your nation, with permission to manage apps
- About 5 minutes

### Step 1: Register an app in your nation

1. In SmartChange, go to **More → Developer → Integrations**, find **NationBuilder**, and copy the callback URL.
2. In your NationBuilder admin, register a new OAuth app.
3. Paste the SmartChange callback URL into the app's redirect or callback field.
4. Save the app and copy its credentials.

### Step 2: Connect from SmartChange

1. On **Developer → Integrations**, open the **NationBuilder** card. It shows **Not connected** until you connect it.
2. Enter the app's details.
3. You'll be sent to NationBuilder. Click **Authorize**.
4. You'll return to SmartChange. The integration is now active.

Enter credentials on the Integrations page only. Never paste them into the Agent.

### What happens next

- Every contribution through any of your forms creates a donation in NationBuilder with the contributor's details.
- Each donation carries a tracking code for its form, so you can see which form drove which donations.
- The first contribution through a new form creates its tracking code, named after the form. Later contributions reuse it.

All data flows one way: from SmartChange to NationBuilder.

### Troubleshooting

**Contributor details look wrong in NationBuilder.** Check the contributor's billing details in SmartChange. NationBuilder receives what was entered on the form.

**Contributions stopped syncing.** The integration shows under **Needs attention**. Nothing is lost. Records queue and go through once you reconnect.
