Connecting DonorPerfect

Connect DonorPerfect to record your SmartChange contributions in your donor database. Each contribution is posted to the matching donor, or a new donor is created.


Before you start


Get your API credentials from the settings area in DonorPerfect. If you can't find them, ask DonorPerfect support or email us and we'll walk you through it.


Connect DonorPerfect in SmartChange


  1. Open your organization in SmartChange.
  2. In the left sidebar, click More → Developer, then Integrations.
  3. Find the DonorPerfect card. It is labeled CRM · Outbound and shows Not connected until you connect it.
  4. Open the card, enter your DonorPerfect credentials, and save.

Enter credentials on the Integrations page only. Never paste them into the Agent.


What gets sent


  • SmartChange looks for a matching donor by email, then by name.
  • If it finds one, the contribution is added to that donor.
  • If not, it creates a new donor.
  • Contributions carry your GL and solicitation codes.


All data flows one way: from SmartChange to DonorPerfect.


If it stops syncing


The integration shows under Needs attention on the Integrations page. Nothing is lost. Records queue and go through once you reconnect.
