Connect your own tools: API keys, webhooks, and MCP

Use the Developer area to connect your own software and AI assistants to your organization. Open it from the left sidebar: More → Developer. It has six tabs: Integrations, API Keys, API Docs, Webhooks, MCP, and Logs. For the built-in integrations, see Integrations: what connects to SmartChange.

API Keys

Click New API key to create one. The page shows your Active keys, Calls in the last 30 days, and how many keys have Write access. Filter the list by All, Live, Test, or Revoked.

SmartChange stores a hash of each key, never the key itself. You see a key once, when you create it. Copy it somewhere safe.

If you lose a key, rotate it. It can't be recovered. Rotation keeps the old secret working for 24 hours, so you can deploy the new one without downtime.

API Docs

API Docs is the full API reference. The basics:

  • Each key can make 60 requests per minute.
  • All amounts are in cents. 2500 means $25.00.
  • Lists are paginated. Request the next page to get more.

Webhooks

Webhooks send events from SmartChange to a URL you choose. Click New endpoint to add one. The page shows your Endpoints, how many events were Delivered, and how many endpoints are Failing. Filter endpoints by All, Healthy, Failing, or Paused.

SmartChange tries each event three times over 24 hours. After that, the event is dropped. If your endpoint might be down longer than that, read the missed data from the API when it's back up.

MCP

MCP lets an AI assistant work with your organization's data. The address is:

https://smartchange.app/api/mcp

Copy it from Developer → MCP, then add it to your assistant:

  • Claude: go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, and leave the client secret blank.
  • Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http goodchange https://smartchange.app/api/mcp
  • Cursor: add {"mcpServers":{"goodchange":{"url":"https://smartchange.app/api/mcp"}}} to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, then open Settings → MCP and click Connect.
  • ChatGPT: go to Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced, turn on Developer mode, then click Create, paste the URL, and choose OAuth.
  • VS Code and others: add a remote (HTTP) MCP server with the URL.

The assistant sends you to SmartChange to sign in. There you pick the organization and choose permissions. Reading is always allowed. Writing is a checkbox: leave it off to keep the assistant read-only.

If your assistant can't sign in this way, use an API key instead. Send it as a bearer header.

The Connection card shows the details: Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1 or API key, scoped to this organization.

Every connected app is backed by a key. To cut an app off, revoke its key. It has to sign in again to come back. Changes made through connected apps appear in the audit log.

Logs

Logs lists API requests, including calls from AI assistants. Filter by All, Errors, Success, or POST to find a failing call.
