Q: Creating a Donation

Hi &amp; Welcome to SmartChange! We built SmartChange with donors like you in mind. We want this to be an easy experience for you and if it's ever not - please reach out and we'll help! Most donors will get here via a link that a campaign has sent out, but some people like to explore the different fundraisers on the site and give when inspired. However you got here, the donation process is the same: <ol> <li>Go to www.smartchange.app/fundraisers</li> <li>Click on any fundraisers that look interesting to you, and you'll land on a landing page. See "Image 1" below.</li> <li>Click donate, and you'll be taken to a form to choose how you'd like to give, and to fill out the required information for us to process your donation. See "Image 2" below.</li> <li>Want to donate as a guest? No problem. That's the default! Link Your Bank + Verify Your Account

Before your organization can take contributions, you need to connect a bank account through Stripe. Your forms can't take money until Stripe has verified your account.

To get started:

Log in and click the Settings gear in the top bar.
Go to Settings → General → Payouts.
Start the Stripe connection. You'll be sent to Stripe. You may see "Level Wins partners with Stripe for secure payments." Level Wins is SmartChange's parent company, so this is expected.
Follow the Stripe prompts to verify your account.

When you're done, Settings → General → Payouts shows Paying out, your bank and its last four digits, your Schedule, Next payout, and Connected date, with Edit on Stripe and Unlink account. Payments settle two business days after they're given. Stripe handles your bank details. SmartChange never sees or stores them.

With an EIN: the last four digits of your SSN

Create a SmartChange Account

Getting started on SmartChange is fast. Before you begin, have your EIN, legal business name, and banking information handy. These need to match your organization's paperwork and bank records exactly. Make sure your device allows pop-ups from SmartChange. We recommend creating your account on a computer, not a phone.

Next, click New organization, then click Get started when the pop-up opens. See Create organization and start fundraising to continue.

Create a form

You can create a fundraiser, event, or membership form from Forms. The form goes live as soon as you create it.

In the left menu, click Forms, then click New form. You can also click New form on the Dashboard.
Under What are you setting up?, choose a type and click Continue. You can't change the type later, but you can always add another form.

Fundraiser: payments of any size, one-off or monthly. This is the most used type.
Event: tickets with a date and a limit per ticket type. Sales close when the seats are full, and each guest gets a scannable pass.
Membership: recurring dues in named tiers, billed yearly or monthly, with renewal reminders.

Under What are you raising for?, enter a Name and an optional Description. Contributors see the name as the heading above the amounts. Short and specific works best, for example "Fund the final push".
Check the web address. It is made from the name and looks like smartchange.app/f/your-form-name. You can edit it.
Choose the visibility: Public, Hidden, or Hidden Plus. See Form visibility: Public, Hidden, and Hidden Plus.

Spare Change Giving: Everything You Need to Know

Spare change giving rounds up a contributor's card purchases to the nearest dollar and gives the spare change to your organization. This article covers organizations and contributors.

For organizations

Turn on spare change for a form

Click Forms and open the form.
Click the Settings tab.
Under Giving options, turn on Spare change.

Offering Weekly under Recurring options removes spare change from the form. Choose one or the other.

Track round-ups

Transactions → Spare Changes shows Active round-ups, Round-ups this week, and Paused. It lists contributors who linked a card to round up purchases for your organization, with their Round-ups, This week, and Status.
Reporting → Spare changes gives you a report you can filter by form, export, or schedule.

Connect a card or bank account. Each time you make a purchase, SmartChange rounds up the spare change to the nearest dollar. At the end of each weekly cycle, SmartChange transfers your spare change to the organizations you chose.

Create Tracking Links for Your Forms

Marketing links show where the people who give to your forms come from: email, text, social media, events, and more. Create one link per channel. You can create as many as you need.

In the left menu, click Marketing. The Marketing links tab opens.
Click New marketing link.
Give it a descriptive name, like "June email" or "Instagram bio".
Save the link.

Each link gets its own code, shown on its card as ?mk= followed by a short version of its name. The card shows its Visits, Conversion, and Raised.

You can also create a link from a form: click Actions → Create marketing link, or click New marketing link in the form's Share options.

Click Forms and open the form.
Click Share options, then the Marketing links tab.
Pick your link.
Copy the tracked address, download the QR code, or copy the short link.

Use the tracked address wherever you'd use the plain form link. Payments that come through it are attributed to the link. A plain link still works, but payments through it aren't attributed to a channel.
