Link Your Bank + Verify Your Account

Before your organization can take contributions, you need to connect a bank account through Stripe. Your forms can't take money until Stripe has verified your account.

To get started:

1. Log in and click the Settings gear in the top bar.
2. Go to Settings → General → Payouts.
3. Start the Stripe connection. You'll be sent to Stripe. You may see "Level Wins partners with Stripe for secure payments." Level Wins is SmartChange's parent company, so this is expected.
4. Follow the Stripe prompts to verify your account.

When you're done, Settings → General → Payouts shows Paying out, your bank and its last four digits, your Schedule, Next payout, and Connected date, with Edit on Stripe and Unlink account. Payments settle two business days after they're given. Stripe handles your bank details. SmartChange never sees or stores them.

What you'll need:

• Location
• Business type
• Legal business name
• Date of birth (for the business representative, if you have an EIN)
• Physical street address
• Phone number
• Online banking credentials, or routing and account number
• With an EIN: the last four digits of your SSN
• Without an EIN: your full SSN, and possibly a state-issued ID

Choosing your business type

Choose carefully:

• Non-profit: use this if you have an EIN. This covers 501(c)(3)s, 501(c)(4)s, PACs, trade associations, 527s, unions, and most political campaigns and parties.
• Individual: use this if you don't have an EIN and are operating as a private individual.
• Company: use this only if your organization is structured as an LLC.

Choosing your industry

For candidates and PACs (with or without an EIN): type political organization and select it when it appears.
For trade associations or unions: type civic organization and choose the matching option.

Setting your payout schedule

We recommend Automatic payouts so your money moves on a set schedule. With manual payouts, you have to go into Stripe each time to start a transfer. See How to Switch from Manual to Automatic Payouts.

Payout frequency depends on your plan:

• Standard: weekly payouts
• Growth: weekly and monthly payouts
• Professional: daily, weekly, and monthly payouts

Troubleshooting tips

The Legal business name in Settings → General must exactly match the name on your Stripe account and your organization's paperwork.

If you don't have a website, you can use a social media profile URL (Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram). Enter the full URL, including www. and .com.

If you picked the wrong business type, go to Settings → General → Payouts and click Edit on Stripe. In Stripe, click the Settings gear in the upper right, then go to Business Settings → More → Tax Information to update it.
